Macchi MC.200 Saetta Fighter

This high-angle portrayal of a Macchi MC.200 almost gives the viewer a sense of vertigo; Koike's brilliant rendering of the details on the plane and the ground below clearly shows off the vast distance between them, and implies the huge strategic advantage the Saetta has over the prey in its sights.  Seeing more action during WWII than any other Italian fighter, the MC.200 had excellent maneuverability and performance, but was underpowered, an issue that was corrected in its even more capable successors, the MC.202 and MC.205.
