This serene image of an H-242-1 Flying Boat showcases Koike's skills at portraying water surfaces. While his art usually depicts the ocean with a good amount of chop, here we have a nearly glass-like calmness. The lack of image detail is more than made up for by the brilliant use of deep blues that contrast the lighter aircraft. We get the added bonus of a fleet of boats in the background, emphasizing the nature of the flying sea vessel depicted here. Only 17 examples of the LeO H-242 were ever built. As depicted here, they saw service with Air France in the 1930s to cities around Europe.
This print is recreated using offset printing on heavy art stock identical to that used by Koike for his originals. It is printed at 100% of the size of the original artwork, and all color reproduction has been approved by Koike personally. Ships flat.
